Have a look at this video, it was made by Adbusters (the people who orchestrated "Buy Nothing Day").

• Write a comment, USING THE METHOD SEEN IN CLASS

- describe the video

- analyse it, the slogan in particular:  what is it trying to say in terms of identity? You can have a product, of course, but how can you BE a product? Can you see the link with what we saw about Brand identity and people's identity?

- criticize it: Is it effective? Do you like it? Who may like it? Who may hate it? Why?

• As always, I would like you to REACT to other people's point of views: read each other and say how you feel about what they are writing.

I'll be reading and reviewing your work after class.

This video shows at first a living room with a TV on. We can hear entertaining voices saying « price » or « you want »coming out of it, and as the camera turns around, we see
the face of the silhouette that was watching TV. It's hard to defind rather it's a boy or a girl, but when we see the slogan « The Product is you », we understand that it's meant to,
because a product is neutral, and it makes the people all look the same. A price is put on his/her forehead, while he/she is passively watching TV. A scary low commenting man's voice is commenting
the scene. The key word is « you » and they put an echo effect on the man's voice to make it stand out. It's directly addressed to us because they use the pronoun « you » in
« your living room is the factory ».
The slogan is « The Product is you ». It's a short sentence you can remember easily. The question you ask yourself is can you really BE a product ? Of course we are defined by the Brand
identity of the brands we wear, or buy, that's why they used that slogan, but isn't too much? We're also defined by our actions, our beliefs, our culture, etc. This slogan is a message from the
Media Foundation, trying to tell us to be careful with advertisements and brands.
I think it's actually meant to scare us, it doesn't work for me though. I don't really like it, I think it's not credible : it's made just as ads are made and at the same time saying that they're
bad, so it doesn't make me believe it. They tried to target young people with this girl/boy in the coach but I think it works more for older people or people against consummation society.

This video is an advert against advertising. We can see in this advert a teenage in a sofa. She watches TV. The room TV is plunged in the dark. She has a tattoo on her face, particulary on her
forehead. The tatoo is a « bar code ». I think this tatoo represents the consumer society.
This document wants to show that advertising is bad for us because it insists to consume, always, more (and more)! The slogan of the advert wants to make us react. The goal of this slogan, it is to
show the influence of advertising on us and tell us that with advertising we become ourselves products of society !
For me, this advert against advertising is a good criticize of our society and make an effect on us. I like this advert for the slogan and the mysterious voice. Furthermore I think that the tattoo
is a good idea and do an impact on us. It is very representative of the society of today and maybe the socitety of tomorrow...

We can see on this video a girl with a bar-code on the forehead. She is watching TV and seems obsessed by advertissements.
The objective of this awareness campaign is to denounce the consumer society. Indeed, we incite us through the advertising to buy. The potential buyer is also considerate as a product because he is
the person who is going to decide on the success of a brand. That's why advertissments try to "buy" us, so that we consumed the product of a specific brand.
The atmosphere of this vidéo is very darkful and terrible. The music is disturbing. Everything is thinking for affraid us about advertissments.

On the video, we can see a girl with a digital code on her forehead who is watching television and particularly the advertising. We can also hear a man speaking with a deep voice.

This is an awareness campaign about the ad. The man compares the living room to a factory and the publics to a kind of object who is transform by the ad! So the public becomes a product of the
advertisers as the slogan says! Furthermore, the brand is made to look like the customer. The product of the brand makes his identity.

It can be effective on the moment but when we buy a product or watch television we don't think always at it!

'm not fond of this awarness compaign because the atmoshpere is odd and the voice is oppressive. However, the people who doesn't like also the ad will agree with that because they are conviced! The
advertisers may do not like this awarness campaign because they could lose customers!
